4. Meals and meal components

Savoury dishes intended to be eaten as a meal or component of a meal (e.g. pasta sauce).

These products contain combinations of starches, vegetables, dairy and/or traditional protein.

Tip: refer to the product name and ingredients list to identify the meal sub-category.

Sub-categories

4.1 Vegetable-based meals

Vegetables/legumes and/or cereals/starches. The product may contain a protein source (e.g. cheese, meat or fish), but it is NOT referenced in the name e.g. vegetable pasta.

4.1a. Vegetable-based meals, pureed

Meals sold as a puree, likely in a jar or pouch.

4.1b. Vegetable-based meals, not pureed

Meals not sold as a puree.

4.2 Meal including cheese

The product name includes cheese, but no other protein is referenced in the product name e.g. cheese, pasta or tomato and mozzarella pasta sauce.

4.3 Meal containing protein (not named first)

Protein source is referenced in the product name, but is NOT the first named food (indicating it's not the main component) e.g. pea and lamb curry, tomato and beef sauce for pasta.

4.3a. Without, cheese, pureed

Cheese not referenced in the product name or ingredients list. Sold as a puree, likely in a jar or pouch.

4.3b. Without, cheese, not pureed

Cheese not referenced in the product name or ingredients list. Not sold as a puree.

4.3c. With cheese, pureed

Cheese referenced in the product name or ingredients list. Sold as a puree, likely in a jar or pouch.

4.3d. With cheese, not pureed

4.4 Meal containing protein (named first)

Protein source is referenced first in the product name (indicating it's the main component) e.g. Beef soup, Tasty chicken risotto.
